Family:
As you can see from the picture I am definitely a family oriented individual with five young children. One of the most common questions we get asked when folks see our children is “are you done yet?” Well, I will get back to you on that one… My wife and I are each the youngest of seven children and we take pride in preparing the next generation for the trials and tribulations of life.
Community Involvement:
My family and I are actively involved in multiple programs at The Family Church in West Gainesville.

Business Experience:
I am a third generation resident of Gainesville with both family and business ties to the community. My late father (the other Dr. J. D. Wood) started a long time locally owned family business in downtown Gainesville over 40 years ago. This was and still is known as ‘University Opticians’, a retail optical store. It was at this business starting at the age of 13 years old that I began my professional career working with the public on a daily basis. I am not sure to this day who taught me more about inter-personal skills; my late father, or the many diverse long-time customers at our office (maybe it was my mother who not only truly ran the business, but also raised 7 children). After several years I moved on from the family business and have garnered experience in various other areas of interest:
- 3 years as a correctional officer
- 3 years owning/operating a local wholesale/retail automotive business
- 8 years in the transportation industry
- 4 years in the insurance/financial services field
- 2 years as district manager for a leading financial services company
- I am currently working back in the transportation industry
Educational History:
-
Education has always been a passion of mine.
-
I graduated from high school at only 14 years old.
-
And I earned a bachelor’s degree at only 19 years old.
-
I followed this up with an MBA and then several years later I finally finished with a PhD from Cambridge International University with distinction in management analysis.
-
Perhaps we should not say I have ‘finished’. I have always believed there is room for advancement in anyone’s education.
